NIWA Auckland (1997 - 2003) Specialist Air Quality Technician

• Project Leader on majority of continuous ambient air monitoring projects, mainly within Auckland, but also nationally for territorial authorities and commercial clients. These include installation and the running of sites on Sky Tower, Musick Pt and Shakespear Regional Park in Auckland, on Mt Taranaki, and in Napier, Hastings, Hamilton, Wellington, Nelson and Christchurch.

• Laboratory Manager for the Air Quality Laboratory in Auckland. Responsible for therunning of, purchasing for and upkeep of the laboratory.

• Co-ordinator of all ambient air monitoring projects providing procedures, documentation and training.

• Initiate and maintain documentation for the operation and calibration procedures of all air quality equipment.

• Initiate and maintain calibration and maintenance schedules for all air quality equipment.

• Performing on-site routine checking, calibration and servicing of ambient air analysers and support equipment and provide training to staff and clients.

• Performing annual service and maintenance and post-service calibration of ambient airanalysers and support equipment to the manufactures schedules and specifications.

• Providing clients technical support and liaison for their existing monitoring networks, and new monitoring campaigns.

• Providing expert advice on monitoring campaigns, siting and equipment.

• Experience in the operating and maintenance of continuous ambient air monitoringinstrumentation, in particular, oxides of nitrogen, carbon monoxide, sulphur dioxide, 
non-methane hydrocarbons, poly-cyclic aromatic hydrocarbons, ozone and particulate matter.

• Active member of the Health and Safety Committee, facilitating in the writing andimplementation of the Personal Protective Equipment procedure, Respiratory ProtectionProgram and Ergonomic Program.

• Employed in laboratory team to provide 24hour support to the plant on 12 hour rotating shifts.
